I did once get a chance to drive a Range Rover Sport along a private road as fast as I wanted and then slam on the anchors - it was pretty impressive and stopped remarkably quickly for the weight of the car. I try not to get too close to any car (or van, white or otherwise) after getting knocked off my bike last year.

When cycling down a mountain in India last year, with a drop of around 2,000m in 20Km I wore through a set of brake pads in one day.

I have had a rim split on me because I ignored the wear on it - it split around the edge and "exploded" the inner tube.Jmehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18078208384599353066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2864052595440250048.post-58159755207942906332010-09-19T19:05:03.907+01:002010-09-19T19:05:03.907+01:00Land-Rover brakes:

I don't take risks walking out in front of Land-Rovers....

The disks (and drums, and bike rims, etc) wear at a slower rate than the pad/shoe material, but still wear. Quite a lot of it is thanks to bits of even harder material, eg grit, that get embedded in the softer side. My mountain-bike's rims have wear-detect groves in them, and I should get the rubbish out of the pads more often than I do.MikeCnoreply@blogger.com
