Having said that I think it would be a waste of money for such a short snow season here in the East.

I wouldn't have thought there would be too much of a problem with the hinged plates. Although I do find the longitudinal ridges on shared use paths disconcerting in the wet and dark. They don't actually cause the wheels to slide much, but any unexpected slip is not pleasant.Jmehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18078208384599353066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2864052595440250048.post-77949354767893683672011-12-18T20:08:31.229+00:002011-12-18T20:08:31.229+00:00One trip I was given long ago for proofreading is ...One trip I was given long ago for proofreading is to read the piece backwards. Particularly if you're a fast reader, which you do by chunking several/many words together. Going backwards stops you doing that.

8 Short Eared Owls between the bridges of Lodes Way today, quite a good number, but Newnham Drove was really quite slippery after sunset as the ice formed rapidly.

The hinged plates on the Reach Lode bridge are in place now. Let's hope they compensate for the shrinkage, although I'd like to know what users think of their slipperiness when wet. If it's bad I'll bring the problem to N.T. & Sustrans attention.MikeCnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2864052595440250048.post-49133155305161939442011-12-18T15:19:20.919+00:002011-12-18T15:19:20.919+00:00Hi Mike,

And thanks for the link to John Hughes' blog, I hadn't noticed that before I will stick it on my list.

My spooling isn't any better mind - I have that problem that I can never see my own mistakes but see them straight away on other people's stuff.Jmehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18078208384599353066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2864052595440250048.post-75691435995377169872011-12-18T15:14:29.460+00:002011-12-18T15:14:29.460+00:00Hi SBC, I agree the fixes were much better than I ...Hi SBC, I agree the fixes were much better than I had anticipated. I haven't been up to see how they have used the rest of the spare tarmac yet.

I've been practising my emergency stops in Fulbourn instead - a van pulled out in front of me as I was doing 20+mph down Hinton road - not so much a SMIDSY as a total inability to read my speed.Jmehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18078208384599353066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2864052595440250048.post-19493260340360089812011-12-16T19:45:22.269+00:002011-12-16T19:45:22.269+00:00More Lodes Way work (nad spulling)

Latest is work on the jumps on the Reach Lode bridge, and an apology for the spelling on the SEO notices.

Yes, JME's comments are noted at Wicken ;-)

Those extra cars at Priory Farm may have been twitchers going up Harrison's Drove to "Charlies' Hide", which has a good view over the flooded scrapes on Bakers' Fen. In 2009 a real rarity turned up there (Squacco Heron), and there was a serious traffic jam on that corner for a week or so.

(I did see it, but it's a pretty nondescript bird despite the rarity in this country.)

MikeMikeCnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2864052595440250048.post-55524675869242172932011-12-16T17:20:23.054+00:002011-12-16T17:20:23.054+00:00I reckon they've done a pretty good job repair...I reckon they've done a pretty good job repairing the cracks on Headlake Drove. The new bits are lovely and smooth and looked in places several inches wider than the rest of the road. I was planning a 'POETS' trip up there earlier, but a combination of work and freezing winds kept me at home today. I hate it when work and weather get in the way of cycling!Swaffham Bulbeck Cyclistnoreply@blogger.com
